December 2010 - Starting Out

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

I've had a life-long affinity for trees - I admire their shapes, their strength, their determination and their silent observance of the passage of time. They provide us with so much and they ask so little in return - a little rain; a little sun. The photo above was taken with my friend, Tina, in mind - she who shares my love for these benificent sentinels.

  1. i have a friend here, who feels the same way as you do, about trees. She is in awe of them and is always trying to figure out more ways to plant them. Me??...I think I'm more into weeds...lol
